Instructions to Contributors

  1. Potential contributors may submit materials for publication as follows: articles (generally not more than 6,000 words including references), brief reports (approximately 3,000 words), or book reviews (800-1,500 words).
  2. Submission is an indication that the manuscript has not been published previously, and is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. If the article is accepted for publication, copyright will be assigned to the Canadian Periodical for Community Studies, Inc.
  3. Appropriate submissions will be sent for blind review before publication decisions are made.
  4. The Journal is concerned with critical factors in the relationship among the investigator(s), the research participants, and the research setting, such as: how entry and consent were obtained, the role the participants played in the research, and what feedback was given. This information should be included in the article or else provided to the Journal in a separate document. The methodology of research presented in journal submissions need to conform to the research guidelines provided in the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans.
  5. It is the policy of the Journal not to use the term subjects. Participants, respondents, informants , or a more specific designation should be used. Further, it is the policy of the Journal that all language therein be gender-inclusive, according to the guidelines set by the American Psychological Association (APA).
  6. The formatting of all submissions should conform to APA (5th ed.) guidelines.
  7. You should submit two copies of the manuscript, one copy that includes a title page with the identification of authors and a complete set of references and another copy that is prepared for a blind review, in which the authors are removed from the cover page and all other information in the text that could identify the authors is taken out.
  8. Please provide a 100-word abstract in FRENCH and ENGLISH.
  9. Please submit the material, including all illustrations and tables by Email, attaching a file copy of the manuscript in Word or WordPerfect format. Please also copy all materials to the CJCMH electronic address at cjcmh@uottawa.ca.
  10. English language submissions may be sent to Tim Aubry, French submissions to François Chagnon:
