Improving Access to Substance Use Treatment for Women: The Integrated Relapse Prevention Program

Abstract

Canadian women with alcohol use disorder have limited access to anti-craving medication, despite its effectiveness in reducing alcohol use. This article describes the results of a pilot program developed to improve access to integrated medical assessment and management of anti-craving medication and traumainformed relapse prevention counselling in a community setting.

Les femmes canadiennes avec un trouble d’addiction à l’alcool ont un accès limité à la médication anticompulsion, en dépit de son efficacité quant à la réduction de la consommation d’alcool. Cet article se penche sur les résultats d’un programme pilote mis en place dans un cadre communautaire pour améliorer l’accès à l’évaluation médicale intégrée, à la gestion de la médication anticompulsion et au conseil en matière de prévention de la rechute en lien avec les traumatismes.
